What not to wear...

Yesterday was a BIG day at work.  I meet with a legislative committee quarterly to discuss policy issues and actions related to tobacco control.  It's a big deal (to me).   Normally, I wear a suit.  But I've grown out of my suits and I am trying to hold off on buying maternity items for as long as possible.  So I decided to wear a pair of too-tight slacks and a too-tight cardigan.  I've been getting away with the "casual Friday" look in the office...because they know me. And who would care, right?  I'm pregnant; I can get away with anything
However, I soon realized that I had made a huge mistake.  I belonged on an episode of What not to Wear. I was just totally inappropriately and underdressed for the occasion.  Since there was no going back, I decided to own it.  What else could I do?  I walked in like I owned the place and pretended like I was dressed as tastefully as Kate Middleton.  But I have vowed never to show-up underdressed again.
My next legislative meeting is in May and I'm scoping out more appropriate clothing.

Have you ever arrived somewhere underdressed? Or dressed inappropriately?

At the next meeting, I'll look more like this (maybe not the last one...but it's super-cute anyway!) :

I adore Kate Middleton and want all of her clothes. The suits you picked are cute, too!

I once showed up at a retirement party for an old co-worker and completely forgot that everyone was required to wear skirts/dresses and suits at my former workplace -- and I was wearing jeans and boots. Fortunately, I had a long peacoat on that covered most of my pants and most people didn't even notice me, but I was so embarrassed.

Ughh...I hate being underdressed! But those maternity suits are actually super cute! I hated spending much money on maternity clothes, but some items were oh so worth it!

Bute the bullet. You'll be in 'em for a long time, might as well get your moneys worth!

I remember how hard it was to find clothes when I was pregnant. But when I finally started wearing maternity clothes they were so wonderful and comfy, and I was so glad I bought them!
